Research and development (R&D) at Atrimed is an ongoing process of innovation, introduction, and improvement of its products. We conduct research with the objective of developing affordable products to alleviate auto-immune diseases, especially Acne, Psoriasis and Eczema. Our R&D function is driven by a talent pool that has extensive experience in various fields of science including biotechnology, phytochemistry, and human medicine.

Our R&D’s core strategy is built on utilizing cutting-edge bioinformatics tools and integrated approach for drug discovery, core expertise in disease areas (auto-immune diseases that lead to inflammation, fungal and bacterial infections) and insights into ancient medicine. Our R&D is enabled and driven by four main strategies, namely, collaboration and patenting, technological expertise, focused disease area, and diverse scientific talent pool.

Principal focus

Our R&D focuses on discovering new therapeutic molecules and enhancing the therapeutic capabilities of the existing ones. The key focus area of our research is skin inflammation. Our R&D function is actively involved in widespread research of phytochemicals and developing new therapeutic molecules for treating auto-immune skin diseases such as psoriasis and skin infections like acne, bacterial and fungal infections. Deploying cutting-edge instruments of bioinformatics for discovering new candidate drugs for treating skin ailments is one of the many pioneering initiatives of Atrimed.

Based on our insights in ancient medicine, human diseases, biotechnology and plant chemistry, we provide corroborative evidence to old medicine through novel methods. Atrimed collaborates with renowned medical research centres and hospitals and conducts clinical trials and lab tests to translate old drugs into new treatments.


Atrimed has been selected as one of the top 100 technology-based start-ups across the state of Karnataka by Elevate 100, an initiative of the Department of Information and Technology, Government of Karnataka.

Key innovations

  • Reached potential breakthroughs in developing remedies for treating psoriasis and acne. Atrimed has offered more than 70 unique formulations in the market.
  • Established a bioinformatics lab to conduct molecular docking and study the interactions between ligand-protein and protein-protein using highly advanced software.
  • Constructed a natural product library that could serve as an unsurpassed source of new pharmaceuticals. The library holds 10,000 natural product extracts, which includes all the molecular structures that have been reported so far, and a virtual library which contains their secondary metabolites.

Proteomics Lab and Small Molecule Analysis Lab

  • The laboratory was established to meet the necessity to establish proteomics-based research. The goal of this facility is to support the studies and projects that need proteomics technology. This facility enables the expression and characterization of proteins (produced or modified by an organism).

  • The gas chromatography instrument allows for the characterization and purification of potential lead molecules.

  • The flow cytometry technique, which allows for the detection and measurement of physical and chemical properties of a population of cells, was used to enable cell counting and sorting of primary and human cell lines.

Bio-Safety Level (BSL) 2

  • The bio-safety level facility is designed for growth and manipulation of micro-organisms that are classified under BSL-2 containment criteria. Some of these organisms include Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Candida albicans, Streptococcus sps, BCG, and Klebsiella.
